Budgie mutations

Budgies comes in many mutations. Some of them you can see here, we will update this topic with more mutations.

Green budgie

Inheritance: Dominant

Green budgie comes in 3 different shades: Normal Green, Dark Green (one dark factor) and Olive (two dark factors).

Normal Green                                                      Olive Green

Grey Green budgie mutation

 

Inheritance: Dominant

Cheek Patches: Deep blue to silver grey
Main Tail Feathers: Black

Normal grey green are similiar to the olive green but can be distinguished by their jet black rather than deep blue tails.

Violet green

 

Inheritance: Dominant

Body: Dark green

Mask: Yellow

Cheek Patches: Violet
Main Tail Feathers: Dark Violet

The effect of violet gene is to darken and enrich the shade of green. This makes, for example, a light green bird with the violet gene look similiar to a dark green.

Sky Blue

 

Inheritance: Recessive

Body: Light Blue

Mask: White

Cheek Patches: Violet
Main Tail Feathers: Dark Blue

Skyblue is the lightest shade of blue, without dark factors.

Cobalt

 

Inheritance: Recessive

Body: Cobalt blue

Mask: White

Cheek Patches: Violet
Main Tail Feathers: Dark Blue

Cobalt - it's the medium shade of blue with one dark factor. It is darker than skyblue.

Mauve

 

Inheritance: Recessive

Body: Dark blue (looks muddy and greyish)

Mask: White

Cheek Patches: Violet
Main Tail Feathers: Dark Blue

Mauve is the darkest blue with two dark factors. It can look muddy and greyish. At grey we have grey/blue cheek patches and black tail while mauve has violet cheek patches and blue tail.

Grey budgie

 

Inheritance: Dominant

Body: Grey

Mask: White

Cheek Patches: Deep blue to silver grey
Main Tail Feathers: Black

Two varieties used to exist, but it now appears that all greys are dominant. Slight differences in depth of coloration may be noted.

Yellow-faced sky blue budgie

 

Inheritance: Dominant

Body: Sky blue

Mask: Yellow

Cheek Patches: Violet

Main Tail Feathers: Dark Blue

Originally, several different forms could be recognized.

Lutino

 

Inheritance: Sex-linked

Body: Yellow

Mask: Yellow

Cheek Patches: White

Main Tail Feathers: Light yellow or white

Lutino is one of the most popular colours. Lutino bird have yellow body colour and red eyes. Cere of the male is pink to purple and light blue/white to tan in females depending on if they are in breeding condition. Legs are pink. Lutino is the green series.

Dilute

 

Inheritance: Recessive

Cheek Patches: Pale violet to pale blue

Main Tail Feathers: Pale yellow or grey

back, rump, breast, flanks and underparts are deluted by aproximately 70% in the light, dark or olive green birds and sky blue, cobalt, mauve or violet birds. Grey green is diluted to a mustard yellow and grey is diluted to a pale grey

Creamino 

 

Inheritance: Sex-linked

Body: Light cream to deep yellow.

Mask: Light to dark yellow with no other markings.

Cheek Patches: White

Main Tail Feathers: Light to dark yellow

Feet And Leg Color: Pink

Eye Color: Red to ruby
